Violent Protests Over Greek Student Death, Athens

Greek police have fired tear gas at protesters gathered outside parliament in Athens to commemorate the third anniversary of the fatal police shooting of a teenager.

Several hundred anarchists threw stones, bottles and firebombs at officers, who replied with the gas and stun grenades.

In a separate march to mark the occasion, 2,000 students also clashed with police after smashing shop windows and bus stops.

They were dispersed by tear gas after using at least two fire bombs.

Around 14 officers are reported to have been injured and 15 people were arrested or detained.

The death of 15-year-old Alexis Grigoropoulos on December 6, 2008, sparked two weeks of the worst rioting Greece had seen in decades.
