FISH farmers in Kinango district within Kwale county are counting losses after unknown people poisoned their ponds killing thousands of fingerlings.
The farmers, according to Kinango District Fisheries Officer Leonard Cheruyot, in Mackinon road location within Samburu division woke up to the shock of floating fingerlings.
Speaking from his Kinango office yesterday, Cheruyot, said samples of the dead fish had been taken to Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KEMFRI) for analysis. "Apart from taking samples to KEMFRI to establish the substance used, we have also reported the matter to the police in our pursuit for the suspects" he said. http://allafrica.com
