The mysterious 'double sunset' at Crome Hill, Glutton Bridge.
A rare midsummer phenomenon is set to make an appearance next week.

The mysterious double sunset will once again be visible in good weather from several locations in North Staffordshire and West Derbyshire.

Jeff Kent, author of the book The Mysterious Double Sunset, will be leading free guided viewings on three evenings, at two different locations - Glutton Bridge near Longnor and Pickwood Hall at Leek.

Jeff said: "The Mysterious Double Sunset is a 20-minute spectacle, with the whole of the sun reappearing from the steep northeastern slope of Chrome Hill after setting on its summit, followed by a second sunset in the valley below."

The Chrome Hill viewing can be observed from Glutton Bridge, on the B5053 just north of Longnor.

Jeff will be leading viewings on Monday June 20, Tuesday June 21 (the summer solstice) and Wednesday, June 22, firstly gathering at the Glutton Bridge phone box at 8.15pm, and then meeting outside the Flying Horse pub, on Ashbourne Road, Leek, at 9.10pm on the same evenings to observe the occurrence on The Cloud.

Spectators should take with them solar filters, or at least sunglasses, although some may be available for distribution.

Jeff will give a free talk beforehand, and will be selling signed copies of his book for £3 - less than a quarter of the cover price.

In the event of adverse or doubtful weather conditions, spectators are advised to call Jeff before setting out, on 01782 791673 (before 7pm)

About The Real Signs of Time

Think for yourself” is probably the most important advice an educated person can hear. Unfortunately, its meaning has become ambiguous.
