Magnitude 6.7 earthquake strikes eastern Indonesia

Updated 12 October 2012, 12:52 AEST
A magnitude 6.7 earthquake has struck eastern Indonesia near the Aru islands.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake was originally measured at 6.9.
It struck at a depth of 33 kilometres, 80 kilometres north-northwest of Dobo on the Aru islands.
The US Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said a destructive widespread tsunami was not likely to be generated by the earthquake.
"There is no tsunami potential. The quake was felt in towns of Nabire, Wamena in Papua and the city of Ambon in Maluku islands," Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency duty officer, Fauzi, told AFP.
"We haven't received any reports of damage so far," he said, adding that the agency measured the quake at 7.0 magnitude.
People in the northern Australian city of Darwin reported feeling the tremors.
