An autumn storm raged on Finland's northern sea areas on Saturday, with strong winds also in Ostrobothnia, Kainuu and southern Lapland. Winds caused electricity cuts in different parts of Finland and damage in the Oulu region.

Strong winds felled trees, which dropped on streets or power lines. Several rooftops have also been torn off houses.

The Rescue Services Department of Oulu says it received about 40 rescue jobs on Saturday due to the autumn storm. Nobody was injured in any of the accidents, however.

Over 2,000 customers of the energy company Vattenfall in North Ostrobothnia, Häme and Central Finland were without electricity on Saturday afternoon. The vast majority of the cuts were repaired by Saturday evening.

Meanwhile YLE Meteorologist Toni Hellinen says that the storm predicted for Sunday will not be as severe as originally feared.
