The explosions resulted from lightning strikes hitting feeder lines used for electricity transmission throughout the neighborhoods. The explosions included intense blue, orange, purple and red colors, ranging over what appeared to be a multiple-block area.
Brian Luenser captured the display and posted it to YouTube, where it has become a big hit. Situated 34 floors up, Luenser shot the amazing video from the balcony of his condominium, providing a dramatic angle for capturing the display. "I was really scared," said Luenser, Huffington Post reports. "The whole sky was lighting up. I didn't know if it was a nuclear explosion or what," he added.
Oncor, the electrical provider for the area said the intense thunderstorm left about 4,000 people without power. According to the National Weather Service, there were more than 120 lightning strikes between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. Luenser caught the action on video between 9:30 and 10 p.m.
